The Very Hungry Butterfly
For Halloween 2024, I brought Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar to life with a two-part costume. This project focused on creating the butterfly wings to complete the look. Using the cardboard backing of an old picture frame, I freehanded the wing shape and then used Photoshop to overlay Eric Carle’s butterfly design, adjusting it to fit the cutout. I printed the design on poster board and glued it to the cardboard for structure.
To secure the wings to my body, I attached elastic straps with zip ties—definitely the most challenging part, as punching holes through the cardboard was no easy task! This costume was inspired by my love for Halloween, which I plan months in advance. While sitting in class one day, the idea came to me after buying a Very Hungry Caterpillar shirt, and the rest was history.
